Just in case you are new to traffic exchanges, and found yourself lost in my last articles about specific use
of them, I want to talk to you about some basics that are important for you to know.

Lets discuss the basic premise of a traffic exchange and how this system works.
This is a basic explanation on what you can do in a traffic-exchange and may be skipped by people
who have been advertising using traffic exchanges for a while. However, I may put a few nuggets
of information in here that you may find useful even if you are more advanced.

What is a Traffic-Exchange?
In its simplest form a traffic-exchange is a way of driving traffic to your website in exchange for
giving traffic to another user’s website.
Traffic exchanges are membership sites, you join the site and opt-in to the sites list, so that the owner
can send you news and updates on the program. In return you can find out more information about what is
going on with the site and may even find a few good deals, offering credits, surfing contests or co-ops and more.

Websites are viewed inside what is known as a “surfbar”.
There are also other common ways that your site can get traffic from TE besides using the surfbar,
they are text links, banner ads, and sometimes email ads.
The surfbar typically is a frame around the websites that members want to advertise that are placed
in rotation. This frame generally has a timer, an area for statistics such as credits earned, websites viewed,
and links to content within the traffic exchanges, such as the main members area, Team surf, Inbox,
and purchase more credits section.

There are two types of surfbars – auto-surfing and manual-surfing.
Auto-surfing surfbars are just what they sound like, the surfbar advances automatically at the end of each timer.
I HIGHLY recommend that you do NOT use auto-surfing traffic exchanges.
The main reason is that with an auto-surfing exchange you can collect credits to your website
but there is no guarantee whatsoever that ANYONE will even see your website that you are advertising
let alone take action on it.

Your goal isn’t just to get traffic to you website, but visitors to it also.
A visitor is a living, breathing human being that can actually see your website, not some program that trades
information with another computer and says that traffic occurred to your website.
Manual surfbars, on the other hand, require that a human take action to advance the program to the next
available website to be seen after the timer has elapsed.

A typical “surf session” may go like this:

• The member logs into their account to begin surfing.
• They may check the sites they currently have in rotation to see if any hits are available that need
  to be assigned to their sites.
• The member launches the surfbar from the surfing link on the TE’s menu.
• The timer for the first site begins counting down from a pre-determined amount of time as the website
  is viewed.
• The timer reaches the end and then a selection of icons or one image needs to be clicked or hovered
  upon to receive credit and advance to the next website.
• A number of credits (or fraction of them) are given and the surfbar selects another website available
  in rotation.

When the member is done surfing they can assign any credits they have available to their websites in the members area.

About tabbed browsing
A powerful way to get more traffic that has recently come about in the past few years with tabbed browsers
is surfing multiple exchanges at one time.  Tabbed browsing allows you to surf several exchanges at one time
in multiple tabs on the same browser making this a very viable option to generate a lot of hits.
While this is a great option I would advise against surfing more than about 4 or 5 exchanges at once
for the following reasons:

1. Surfing more than this with a 10 second timer the surfbar will probably be waiting on you to come back
   to the exchange since the timer has already timed out.
2. Surfing multiple sites like this can slow your computer and processors down depending upon how graphic
   intensive the sites are and your connection speed.
3. Remember, traffic exchanges work on a view for view basis. It is a cooperative advertising medium.
   If you aren’t viewing other people’s sites what makes you think they should pay you the courtesy of viewing yours.

This is just a brief introduction about what traffic exchanges are.

to the other, and having conjoined contests.

That ofcourse is meant to bring more traffic and members to all of their websites, instead of struggling
for members on each TE alone.

Im not sure which one started this trend, but there are two major TE owners who play with their co-ops:

1. Kjell Skogsoy – The owner of Lords Of Traffic and DeepSpace Traffic
   (Also Lords Of The List, but that’s not a TE)
   On his Traffic Exchanges you can find joined prizes just for surfing a minimum amount of pages on both
   Example: “Surf over 200 pages on each of the TE’s and receive a 300-500 bonus credits!”
   “…And enter the Cash raffle”
   I am a fan of Lords Of Traffic , as it has the most games and bonuses than any other TE
   I’ve seen, however I like DeepSpace less, since it’s only clicking TE and does not provide Hovering option.
   (Kjell claims that click-surfing is faster actually, but opinions are crossed on that one)
2. Kenneth Kraakstad – Owner of Hover-Traffic TE, Generalen TE, and TrafficGiantic.
   Kenneth’s Traffic Exchange Co-Ops offer new and innovative options – On top of the weekly bonuses,
   and random “Surf them all” contests on those TE’s you can actually transfer bonus points from one to the other.
   This is a great tool to win free account upgrades!
   Hover Traffic tself is actually the Traffic Exchange that offers the most for Free
   Members in terms of Credit ratio, Cash etc.

So there you have it, they lowdown on Co-Op Traffic Exchanges. Great use for Free Upgrades,
bonuses and prizes.

Ok, so you’ve got some product, products, or a website that you are promoting, and maybe
you have followed my advices on Traffic Exchanges and their ability to Boost the exposure of
your products, so you signed up on a few.

You have probably noticed then, that the number of websites you can promote for yourself
on a Traffic Exchange is limited, especially if you’re on a free base account…

So Now Im going to tell you about a little trick, a cheat even, that will help you get exposure
and traffic to more websites than the limit you are given in your traffic exchange.

Yes, basically you could be a Free member of any TE with many more websites than you should.
Most TE’s limit the number of websites you can promote to 5-10.
I’ll tell you how to make each one of those five show as many websites as you want. Each one.

It’s actually not that hard to do, if you know the right places for it – A little something called “Rotator”

A website rotator is one link code that switches between different website YOU define for them.
Some of the traffic exchanges today will offer you a free rotator which displays all the websites you listed
in your “my sites” section in your TE.
The problem with those rotators is that many of the Traffic Exchanges use them to promote themselves as
well so you will have a line above every website it displays, saying where that rotator came from, and sometimes
your personal info as well. Click here for an example Rotator (each time you click you will get to a different site).

In my opinion this is not that good, since I don’t always want people to know this is a rotated website.
Also I feel it’s a little more aesthetic without that top line.
The website I use for that matter is PageSwirl.
It is not a Traffic Exchange site, it only offers rotators.

As a free member you can have up to 5 websites in your rotator (which is the total of websites you can
display as a free member of a Traffic Exchange – Pushed into one link), but as an upgraded member
you can have Unlimited rotators, with unlimited websites in them, which you can even prioritize.
At PageSwirl you can also choose to have a personalized rotator, with your name on in on the top line, but
the default rotator is clean and only shows your websites. Click here to see (each click – different website).

At Traffic For Webmasters Traffic Exchange you also get a rotator without a top line.

As a follow-up to my last post about Traffic Exchanges I have decided to bring to you a bit of selection.
Traffic exchanges are a free, fun, informative way for you to publish your website, and get it more exposure.

The main idea is simple – You spend a selected in advance amount of seconds watching a website
(7-10-15 seconds usually), and then you have to click a number/color/shape that’s revealed to you.
For every website you watch you get credits. You can assign those towards showing your own website. Traffic Booster.
Most traffic exchanges also provide games, teams and fun contests for extra credits and cash.

Traffic Exchange programs will offer you pretty much the same things:

• Free Rotator
• Dynamic surf ratio, depends on your Membership Level, and special “Lords Of Traffic Rush" href="http://lords-of-traffic.com/allsplash.php?rid=10847" target="_blank">Weekend Rushes“
• Downline Builder
• Compete and earn points while surfing and promoting

But I wanted to talk about HOW we surf.

   It has no teams (Yet maybe) but it offers many games for extra credits, and weekly prizes also. 10 sec Timer.
3. Viral Hits – This is another lovely exchange. Viral Hits offers a very friendly interface, with surf-chat, but
   like Battlefield Hits – No teams. It offers plenty of personal bonus games and contests as well as high quality
   traffic. Still growing so might also be a good place to snatch a high position.

Alright, those are my Must-Be-Quiet-Time Traffic Exchanges.

Getting your promotional emails into an opt-in subscribers inbox, and past the all-mighty Spam Filter,
is one of the hardest, and increasingly difficult tasks for the online marketer.
Those Spam filters affect at much as 30% of your click-through rates.. That’s a lot.

Subscriber Addresses
Try asking for “real” or “primary” email address when requesting website visitors to opt-in for a product.
Many prospects will input their actual ISP mail, which means you’ll have a valid verified address, and not
some throw away account thats been opened for free, and would typically have a shorter lifetime than ISP
address.

Permissions
Confirming that the people who ask for your information have actually requested to be on your list is
the number one step in the battle for deliverability.
You should be using what is called a “confirmed opt-in” or “verified opt-in” to send a unique link
to the attempted subscriber when they request information. Before adding the person to your list
they must click that unique link verifying that they are indeed the same person that owns the email
address and requested to subscribe.

Formatting
HTML formatted messages are growing more and more popular, since they allow text formatting,
multiple columns, images, and brand recognition, and are widely supported by most email clients.
Most spam is also HTML formatted. That means that differentiating between requested email and
spam HTML messages is getting difficult for the filter engines.
A study by Aweber a few years back shows that HTML messages are flagged undeliverable twice as many
times as plain text messages. This is why it is important to send a plain text alternative message along with
your HTML.

List Maintenance
Remove undeliverable addresses!
Those addresses bounce when sending email to them. An address that bounces with a permanent error 2-3
times in a 30 day period should be removed from the list. ISP’s track what percentage of your newsletters
bounce and will block them if you attempt to continually deliver messages to closed subscriber mailboxes.

Mail Content
Many ISP’s filter based on the content that appears within the message text.

Website URL:
If you use advertisers in your newsletter – Research before allowing them to place ads in your newsletter.
If they have used their website URL to send spam, just having their URL appear in your newsletter
might get the entire message to be sent straight to the Spam box.

Words/phrases:
Choose your words carefully when writing messages.
Avoid topics often found in spam such as medication, mortgages, making money, and pornography.
However – And this is Important – If you do need to use words that might be filtered, don’t attempt
to distort words with extra characters or odd spelling, you’ll just make your messages appear more
like spam.

Images:
Try not to create image-only messages. Use images sparingly, if at all.
Commonly used open rate tracking technology uses images to calculate opens, so you may
choose to disable open rate tracking to avoid being filtered based on image content.

Attachments:
Attachments are a very sensitive issue in our virus filled world.
Often linking to files via a website URL will be a much better solution.
This will reduce recipient fear of attachments, and reduce the overall message size.

These are just highlights of what you should watch for when writing a sales copy to your downline.

Maybe you’ve heard of HummingBird.  It’s actually a very well known software,
so well known in fact, that it was studied by many marketers, to learn if it is just a scam or actually
something worth working with.
Well the conclusions were unanimous – Theres no scam here.

If you put in the work – You cash in the money.

Hummingbird is a tool to use with Twitter, to help you build your following of Tweeps.
The idea is simple:

1. Find someone (a tweep) that you want to follow. You can use the find people search in Twitter,
   and use key words for your niche to find people who are interested in the same subjects as you.
2. After clicking on the follow button below their image, you can then start following those who
   are following the person you just followed.
   • In the right hand column just click on the followers link to see who is following the tweep you
     just started following. They might also share the interests you share.
3. Just push the “Follow All” button at the bottom right of the HummingBird screen.
4. Wait 24-48 hours and then select “Unfollow All” to remove tweeps that haven’t followed you back
5. After cleaning your list you can start the following process again.
6. Rinse and repeat.

If you follow someone they will follow you back (usually). Just watch out not to follow too many
new tweeps at once, or you might get flagged as spammer by Twitter (Were talking 3000+ per day).
You build up trust with the tweeps following you, and then you can send them a link.
The link can be to almost anything – even a sales/landing page if you want.
Hummingbird runs in its own IE styled web browser, just to make it extra easy for users.

With enough followers, who are in your niche, you will be well-received if you provide
valuable info, help, and so forth. And this will have them looking at your links.
If you get 100 people to your page, and convert 2% to 4% to a sale then you are earning money,
and Hummingbird has earned it’s keep.

We think it is a bit too good, but then again it’s a sales page.

What we like:

• It does what it says, better than expected
• Build up your following without wearing out your clicking finger
• It makes it easy to manage who you follow, and who is following you
• Just pick someone to follow, click on the followers or following link, then click on a button
  and you are following those people as well.
• HummingBird has Un-Follow memory protection for you. It is quite special and prevents you from
  re-following tweeps you have previously unfollowed. Other follow scripts don’t do it,
  and that can get you into trouble. If you follow and unfollow users multiple times, they can
  report you for spamming and get your Twitter account banned.
• Hummingbird also lets you have a VIP list for users who are not following you, but you wish to
  continue following them.
• Improvements and updates come regularly, new features are being developed even now.
  Also,in the rare case of a bug-report you will find it fixed quickly (48 hours or less)
• The developers listen – if you have a feature request, then suggest it, they do listen.

What we don’t like:

• Follow All does not have limits built in, you need to be cautious about it.
• Yeah we know there isn’t a second thing here, we just couldn’t really find one..

Conclusion:
HummingBird takes your business website marketing to the next level.
A Twitter account can only help get your site indexed (stick your site name in your twitter profile). 
HummingBird can do much more
It can help get your name in front of a large targeted crowd.
While it won’t find the people to follow for you, it will automate the following and un-follow process.
We like it, and use it almost on a daily basis.
